Starting a new role on Monday, need a refresher on accounting basics - any recommendations?

Career

Howdy y’all,

I left my finance job in oil and gas back in June and finally found a new job working for the city as an assistant controller, which starts next week.

It’s a lot more accounting focused, which my previous job was not, so I feel I’m a little nervous that I’ll be asked some super basic shit and just blank because I haven’t done it regularly since I graduated in 2019. I have my CPA, so I’m not completely hopeless (maybe), but if anyone has any YouTube video recommendations or anything else, I would really appreciate it.

Job description includes: preparing interim financial statements and schedules, supervising various complex accounting functions (like financial analysis and financial statement prep), account analysis and correction journal entries, projection/forecasting, etc. (all from job posting)

Maybe I’m overthinking it ☠️ also if you have any advice on what to do to start a new job off right, I would love to hear it! I was at my previous job for 5 1/2 years right out of school, so it’s been a while! And it’s also a completely different environment (corporate oil and gas finance vs. government accounting), so just a little nervous. I didn’t lie on my resume, I promise lmao
