Thoughts on WVSOM (new curriculum, post-2024)
I’m a current student at WVSOM and I feel like leading into school everyone was telling me WVSOM was a no brainer. Never heard a bad word about it. Once I got it seems like a dumpster fire.
Administrative nightmare cuz they ignore us as students even when we complain. Horrific timing of events, its “tradition” to put first years through hell week at the end if first semester but somehow they’re committed to student well fare and want us to have more downtime. Entirely self-learning based curriculum (damn-near PBL style). Clinical skills is piss-poor, majority of the class probably cant even take a manual BP. They “taught us” by having us watch a youtube video on our own then had us do it once supervised and thats it. Out of touch from reality PhD-mafia, hell bent on teaching the material of their interests and not boards. Poor board performance (5% below national average).
I am aware that this is the truth if many medical schools, I’m not truing to be a snowflake. Every school has its fair share of nightmares. And for the incoming students I just want these points highlighted so they can prepare accordingly. Also want to see how this “more reputable” DO school stacks compared to others.
