Built Chrome extension where you have to convince AI to visit distracting site
I recently wrote a simple free Chrome Extension called Focus Shield where you have to convince an AI (via a simple short message) to use a distracting website: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/ibmmihgadnkilmknmfmohlclogcifboj
Using this in the last few days I probably reduced my total distractions by 85%
Some examples:
- "Watch React tutorial" → ✅ 15 minutes
- "Check colleague's LinkedIn profile" → ⏰ Save to To-Do Reminders instead
- "Check weather" → ✅ 20 seconds
- "Scroll X feed" → ❌ Stay focused
I also made it respond in a somewhat witty and motivational way:
- "check out my girlfriend's ig story" → ❌ "Your girlfriend would want you to stay locked in"
Lastly, I've incorporated the idea of GTD (getting things done) via a reminder to-do-list that lets you easily stash distractions for later review.
I'd love your feedback on this. Any improvement suggestions? Personally I feel the only problem right now is that it's a bit overpowered/aggressive. But that might be also its strength... curious what you think.
