Religious Psychosis

Trigger Warning

FYI: You might’ve seen my story before. I was told someone had copied it from a support group on Facebook, and posted it on Reddit without my permission. That’s a new kind of violation I’ve never dealt with before, but I’ll roll with it.

When I was around 21, I lived with my parents. My brother came from out of town to visit. He was fed up with our mom’s religious guilt trips & lectures. They got into a screaming match, and my brother finally told her that he doesn’t believe in any god/s.

Something snapped in my mom. She’s always been unhinged, but this was a whole new level. She screamed back, “If god isn’t real, then I guess I can do this”. She grabbed a long rifle that was propped up against the back door, pulled down her pants, and shoved the rifle up her butt. Thankfully, she didn’t pull the trigger.

I believe my mom has borderline personality disorder & unmedicated ADHD. She has narcissistic traits, memory issues, cognitive dissonance, trouble concentrating, hoarding tendencies, and long depression/ aggression episodes. Shes sweet one minute, sour the next. It seems to be getting worse the older she gets, and she refuses to see a doctor or get a non-biased therapist (her current therapist is religious and is enabling her behavior).

Does this resonate with anyone? Are there any steps I can take to help her accept medical help, or will she always be like this?
