Daughter (good student) seemingly being picked on by teacher. What would you do?
Hi all, My daughter is in 8th grade and is a very dedicated member of the school jazz and marching band. She loves playing music and being in the band. Over the last few months she has been telling me that her band teacher is constantly calling her out in front of the class for not doing things he claims he told her to do. Now, I originally gave the teacher the benefit of the doubt because I know that a child’s listening skills are not always great. But nearly every day, for over a month, she has come home saying he got mad at her again for not doing something he never told her to do.
Today when I picked her up she said he threw a stack of papers in her face. She said he said, “Why didn’t you pass these out?” As he shook the papers in her face. She replied, “I didn’t know I had to” and he then threw them in her face. They fell to the ground and he just stared at her, then walked away. She picked them all up and the passed them out.
It’s a hard-to-believe story, but my middle school band teacher threw things and kicked chairs, so it’s not too far fetched.
What’s the first step you’d take to address this?
