No bad day in recovery can compare to any day in active addiction.
Life has been a bit down lately. I lost my job and currently starting a new role in January while also starting a side hustle that hasn’t had any success yet profit wise after endless hours put into it.
When I get down on things, I quickly remind myself those days where I had maxed out my savings, then all of my credit, after wagering someone’s yearly salary in a night, or scrambling to different banks trying to do cash advances or take out high payday loans, thinking how am I gonna pay my rent this month or put food on the table, or gas in my car.
Escaping addiction makes you appreciate life more. I remember I used to hear people in the 12 step rooms talking about being a grateful addict and I always wondered how the FUCK are you grateful for the hell that you endured!?!?
Now I understand that once you escape that hell, there isn’t any problem that life throws at you in the real world that you can’t navigate after experiencing the wrath of gambling, or in my case drug and alcohol addiction as well.
So if you have some clean time, and life seems hard, remember how far you have come, and remember that as long as you don’t gamble, you will always figure it out no matter what, and life will slowly get better.
Stay strong brothers and sisters. I pray everyone finds the strength to overcome this, one day at a time. 🙏🏻
