[IWantOut] 25-30F Canada -> EU

Sorry for the long post - TLDR included at the end.

Hello! I am a Canadian (Ontario) and German dual citizen, so I recognize that with a German passport I already have freedom of movement & residency, but I am wondering if what I am feeling is grass-is-greener syndrome?

I am somewhat experienced in the 2D animation industry, which is a niche industry. I also only speak english currently. I can read and understand some spoken french with some difficulty, but cannot really speak it. Maybe A1/A2 level. I do want to become fluent/am working on increasing my french level. Eventually, I do want to speak German (partly so I can talk to my mom in German).

I am at crossroads. I was laid off a few months ago. The 2D animation industry in Canada is struggling, but I have heard that the animation industry in Europe is not doing well either, so I am not optimistic about working in my trained industry. I am considering going back to school for something else if I cannot find work in a year. I figure, if I have to start over again, maybe I should take the leap and relocate.

I do not think that moving to an EU country will solve all my problems (as they say, wherever you go, there you are), but I have become so frustrated with lack of transit and walkability priority here. I have been nearly hit a few times riding my bike to get groceries, and it has made me not want to ride my bike anymore. My province and city continues to vote for car centric provincial governments. I have also considered moving to Montréal (Quebec, Canada), but it is only one city trapped in a similar system. I sometimes feel like I should stay to push for change, but sometimes it feels like something I will never see in my lifetime.

I was considering maybe doing a few months abroad and seeing how I feel, but I don't really know how feasible this is financially? I am a renter (with a roommate), have no car, no spouse, just have an old cat.

Is this just grass-is-greener syndrome? Has anyone moved abroad from Canada? Has your quality of life improved? Do you miss Canada? Thank you for any opinions/info!
