Jeremiah 2

[21] Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

[22] For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

[23] How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

[24] A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

[25] Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

That describes a disciple, grafted as a former wild olive tree, into Jacob; some of whose branches were broken off because of unbelief. We are a right seed, dead, as Jesus said ‘except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone. If it die, it brings forth much fruit. We aren’t degenerate because according to His mercy He saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

If we’re degenerate of a strange vine then we aren’t abiding within the true vine, bearing fruit worthy of repentance.

We Disciples also must walk in the light as He is in the light, have fellowship, and the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from sin. This is how a young man may cleanse his way; by taking heed thereunto God’s word and it won’t leave us blind, unable to see afar off, having forgotten we are purged of our old sins

The Disciple is certain to know the right way and be watchful over all they do. Key in that cycle of strife is examining and judging ourselves that we not fall but stand fast in the faith resisting the devil.

The Disciple must not become complacent but carry on biblical devotion daily lest we wander away from the rigors of discipline and out into dry places, seeking vanity and vexation of spirit.

We must remember to repent quickly and walk in faith. A just man falls seven times and returns. So must we, back upon the narrow way that leads to live and correcting our behavior every step of the way.
