Venmo duplicate charges?
I hope maybe this post can warn/or answer questions on how Venmo’s system seems to glitch? But essentially after this, I’m deleting my Venmo account.
I had made a normal transaction to a friend of mine and when I hit submit, I got a normal looking error message. Simply, the payment couldn’t go through. “Try again later”. So naturally, I waited a few minutes, reloaded the app, and tried again. Went through no problem and my friend received it.
Come to find out, my bank was charged 3 times for that transaction instead of the 1 time it went through, as showing on the app. Weird…so I contacted my friend who handed me their phone and proved, they only ever received one payment. The other two charges of a couple hundred dollars, are seemingly…nowhere to be found?
Trying to explain this to Venmo support (which their claims department has no phone number, just a general line that can only “elevate your dispute to the dispute department”, has been an absolute nightmare. My claim got rejected times even after submitting bank statements of the multiple charges. No real answer was given other than the fact that Venmo only sees one charge.
My bank ended up ignoring the issue to as “they don’t deal with things like these” and to contact the merchant (Venmo). I still don’t have a resolution to this issue, and it’s looking quite grim that it will get resolved but hopefully this post can serve as a warning to people to not use Venmo as much, especially with the glitches! Has this ever happened to anyone else? And if so, how did it get resolved?
