Would I be the ah if we kicked out family from our house?
I will try to keep it as short and straightforward as possible and keeping name and ages change for anonymity. My husband (m 42) and I (f 40)let a family member move into our house this year, and from the very beginning we had been having issues. We have tried to make this as professional as you can with family but also not as strict as normal. We did write up a lease though, just to be safe but My husband and I let this family member rent our house so they could closer to family. They were late on the first month rent when it was due and from then on we would have to call or reach out to get rent from them.
We did find out after the second month of being late that they had moved in someone who they knew would not pass any background check and we wouldn’t approve of (also for liability reasons)and from then on this family member just became hostile. We tried to reach out in amicable ways and told them we had plans to sell the house anyway but we were going to give them time to move out since the situation wasn’t working out. We have been called names, accused of things we have not done. While also being basically told to fuck off. It is an older house but any “issues” that could have been we disclosed prior to them moving in and now we have not seen rent in months. The rest of the family that knows what’s going on is pretty much in agreement with us.
We do have plans to evict them because they moved someone in that we do not approve of and have given them multiple chances to leave without eviction but apparently has chosen to fight us on it. Most of the family that knows what’s going on says we should go ahead with the eviction but there is still the little bit of me that feels bad because we don’t want any children to be homeless, but it has now started to affect my family financially So would we be the assholes?
