Annoyed with my loving in-laws, AIO
Every year twice a year, my in-laws want to get together with the whole family for several days. We do a summer trip and Christmas. The summer trip is more of a destination vacation and lasts a week. Christmas includes several days before and even sometimes after Christmas, spanning 5-7 days, at my husband’s childhood home.
It is hard to spend time with my family and do my Christmas traditions when they are requesting all the days spent at their house (this year, they want Dec 20-27). They live over 2 hours from my family so it’s not like we can jump around. We say fewer days or we don’t want to come as early because we don’t want to pay to board our dogs that long and they offer to pay for boarding so they can get the full time.
This all sounds well and nice, but I can’t help but hate it. It makes me feel annoyed that they need their adult children home for the holidays for an entire week (8 adults and two babies total staying in this house, with two more babies being added to the family next year). It’s just a full house. Am I overreacting for feeling annoyed and frustrated with this?
Worth mentioning that I could not make a family trip a couple years ago due to a work commitment and asked my husband to stay behind with me. His parents bought his plane ticket and covered all of his expenses, called every day until he said yes to going on the trip. So I stayed back and he went on the trip. Will I have more say when we have our own kids? Is this controlling or am I crazy?
Again, they are very supportive, nice and loving of all their children and their spouses…. so why do I hate it so much? Is this a me problem?
