numb index finger - when does the numbness heal and what should I do?
My index finger has been numb for almost 3 wks. I'm not sure if it was from when I cut my finger cutting vegetables or from a bandaid too tight or both.
Anyway, it was absolutely hell/horrible the first 2 wks and only recently, it's been improving a bit.
However, tonight - it's suddenly bothering me a lot - I can feel it's different from my other fingers and I'm getting really anxious. One Dr said it would heal or go away in about 3 wks and my reg. family physician who I saw subsequently after, agreed. I doubt it's gonna be gone on Friday - which will be 3 wks.
Online - my research seemed to indicate up to 6 wks - so, can I count on this being healed up in another 3 wks? When do I conclude I have a real problem? I thought it was gonna be a compressed nerve and it'd eventually heal. The only 'positive' I can see is that it did improve at least enough to notice after the first week and a bit - in which it was bothering me 24/7.
I know compressed nerves take a long time to heal - and I doubt it's a cut nerve or the drs would have told me so? I doubt a wound to my finger like that - it was somewhat deep but I don't think enough to cut - the wound closed pretty quickly....
Am I concerned for nothing? Maybe it's just taking a long time? :-(
I just hate the numb feeling. I have carpel tunnel in my other hand - wrist/ and it eventually healed after a long time - I can't do anything repetitive or strenuous with it but at least, it's not numb 24/7 anymore. I freaked out, too - watching some ppl posting their surgery of their wrist all cut out to ****. I am so glad I didn't need that.
