How I Chose My Egg Donor — Step by Step
After my last post, many asked: “Your results are amazing — but how did you pick your donor?” Here’s the messy middle part.
Looking at donor profiles at first felt surreal. You’re flipping through pictures and details thinking: This person’s eggs could create my child. Heavy stuff.
What I noticed first (surface filters):
Photos — do they look vaguely like me?
Age & AFC — I wanted someone in early 20s with good ovarian reserve
Education/occupation — values alignment
Family health history — obvious genetic red flags
What really mattered after deeper review:
Age + ovarian reserve — biggest predictor of egg/embryo yield
Carrier screening & family history — serious medical risks
Prior donation outcomes — eggs retrieved, blast rates, PGT results
Donor stability — lifestyle, reliability; not hobbies or “vibes”
How many candidates I reviewed:
Skimmed 6–7 profiles to get a sense of the options
Narrowed to 2–3 for deeper review
Chose 1 final donor
Emotional check:I asked myself — can I accept this person’s genes for my child? While reviewing profiles, I realized that although the rational criteria mattered, the final choice often came down to “eye appeal.” The donor I ended up choosing was someone I naturally liked at first glance. That initial feeling made me feel calm, confident, and secure — I knew in that moment, she was the one.
Practical, fact-based decisions + minimal emotional noise made it possible to move forward without getting paralyzed.
If anyone’s curious about how I worked with an agency that consolidated multiple donor programs, I’m happy to share what I learned and my personal experience.
