Ranged damage problem

I was taming an arty and my crossbow (standard 100% damage) was doing 854 damage to the head with standard arrows. I have tested melee damage and that seems to be normal - aswell as dino damage. I cannot think of any reason for why ranged damage has gone so high out of no where and I started a new world recently and I feel as if it has crossed over. What do I do to get my ranged damage back to normal?
