Fan on Passive Sink?

I've got a new-to-me X11SSH-F coming in with Xeon E3-1275 V6 and the passive sink, which I intend on swapping out for a NH-D9L once I put it in the case but I'm intending to do some provisioning before that and was curious if I could temporarily mount a fan to the sink for this?
