Customer Service is unreasonable and useless
I had a personal AT&T account for about five years when the company I work for decided to switch out the device we used to write service reports on for a new device. While working with the Project Manager for the new device to get it set up he asked me for my phone number. Thinking nothing of it I gave it to him thinking he might need to reach back out to me for follow up. The next day I received an email they would be transferring my personal cell number to the new device. I immediately contacted them to let them know that wasn’t going to happen and that they would need to assign a new number to the device. We never received or made calls on the new device so it was a stupid idea. Thought that was the end of it until three months later I reached out to AT&T to add hotspot to my account. I was informed that I didn’t have permission to make changes to the account. That only my company could make changes. I asked them to give me my personal account back and I was informed that only if my company contacted them could any changes be made. Ironically their argument was that they couldn’t violate the account owners rights by allowing changes to be made by a third party. When I pointed out that they had no problem violating my account owner’s rights they put me on hold and never came back on the line. I’ll do what I can to keep the cellular number I’ve had for 30+ years, but if I can get the number off AT&T I’ll never be back.
