ABM isn’t about “targeting big accounts.” It’s about fixing the leaks you didn’t know you had.
I’ve been rebuilding parts of our demand engine lately, and one thing keeps becoming obvious:
Most B2B funnel issues aren’t top-of-funnel problems.
They’re “lost context” problems between stages.
That’s where ABM (when done properly) has been surprisingly effective, not as a buzzword, but as a leak detection system.
Here’s what I mean 👇
- Most accounts don’t drop off… they drift away unnoticed.
A prospect downloads something → then visits your site → then goes silent. Not because they’re unqualified, but because the next step was too generic.
ABM forces you to slow down and ask: “What does this specific account actually care about right now?”
- Enrichment makes ABM work, not intent tools alone.
The biggest leaks happen when all accounts get lumped together.
What’s been working is enrichment that surfaces things like: • New hires • Tech changes • Funding updates • Product launches • Team restructuring • Shift in messaging on their site or posts
These signals usually tell you why they disappeared or when to re-engage.
- Micro-messages > mass nurturing
Generic nurture sequences lose 80% of their power after a few emails.
We’ve been shifting to micro-touchpoints like: • short 45–60 sec videos tailored to the account’s moment • value-only emails around their latest update • small check-ins triggered by behavior (not calendar dates)
ABM works when it feels personal but not heavy.
- The “leak fix” mindset beats the “big logo” mindset
A lot of teams think ABM = chase Fortune 500 logos. I’m seeing the opposite:
ABM works best when you treat it as:
“Let’s remove friction and tailor context for the accounts already showing signals.”
Cleaner handoffs. Better conversations. Less guesswork.
- ABM is less about who you target, more about how your system responds.
The smartest thing ABM has forced me to do is map: account → signal → segment → message → medium instead of running everything through one generic funnel.
That’s where the leaks get fixed automatically, quietly, and consistently.
I’m curious how others here use ABM today: Are you using it to go after big accounts, or to tighten your entire funnel?
Would love to hear what’s working in your setups 👇
