Two Cats at Recently Vacated Rental Property; Unsure What to Do

General

Hi, all.

I’m renovating a single family home in between tenants and there are two cats (small, black, shorthair male + large, grey, longhair male or female) that I’m concerned were abandoned by the tenant.

Tenant vacated the property after the lease expiration, didn’t pay last month rent, and left large amount of belongings, debris, and garbage behind.

These two adorable cats are constantly around the property, hanging out on the front porch, wanting to go inside, sitting on the porch staring in the front door while I’m working.

Since day one I’ve started feeding them dry food and leaving water on the side steps. I’ll give them food when I arrive (11am/12pm) and then again before I depart (4/5pm).

They are very vocal and will walk close to me whenever I’m outside.

There are multiple other cats around the neighborhood and I’m just not sure which cat lives where or if there are multiple strays.

I’m very distressed that these beauties were abandoned, but only know one neighbor and can’t figure out how to fescue if they belong to someone or not

I considered talking to the one local no-kill shelter and have been asking anyone I cross paths with if they know whose cats they are.

This is incredibly stressful and am not sure what to do.
