Is cleaning a derailleur in a ultrasonic bath efficient ?

Hey, I want to deep clean my derailleur and I was wondering is chugging it in a ultrasonic bath is fine ? I don't have any extra special cleaning agent except gasoline or wd 40 but that doesn't seem to cut it, what do you think ? (My goal here is to avoid buying extra stuff)
