[TOMT] [MOVIE] movie set in olden times with a very gory scene where a guy gets his head slowly crushed

I watched this movie a few years ago but can only remember a few scenes and cannot for the life of me remember the name. I know it was made within the 2010-2017 range. I remember that it’s set in maybe the 1700s-1800s, don’t know when exactly but definitely not modern times, I think it’s also got elements of sci fi. I remember there was a young couple in it that were secretly hooking up without the girl’s father knowing. When the dad finds out, the guy is killed in an awful way. He’s spread out what I can only explain as a torture device which consists of lying on a long wooden board where his head is slowly crushed until it explodes.

I think there’s also some type of witch creature in it, I can’t remember. Those are the only scenes that stick out to me, so I realise it may be a hard find.
