Metro Manila's unusually unique position..

NaturePH

I just realized that Metro Manila is unusually close to a remarkable variety of natural attractions, making it one of the few major metropolitan areas in the world with such easy access to diverse landscapes. For a quick getaway, you can reach Pagsanjan Falls and other waterfalls in Laguna, the hot springs of Pansol, the beaches and mountains of Batangas, the scenic areas of Rizal and Tagaytay, and the lakes of Caliraya and Zambales, all within one to a few hours’ travel. Very few cities offer this combination of beaches, waterfalls, lakes, hot springs, mountains, scenic viewpoints, and hiking spots so close to the urban core. Only a handful of global cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, Cape Town, Honolulu, or Vancouver, come close, but even they do not match Manila’s combination of tropical climate, diversity of landscapes, and sheer number of options within such a short travel time. Even Tokyo, a city renowned for its accessible nature, cannot rival Manila in having tropical beaches, waterfalls, lakes, mountains, hot springs, and scenic spots all reachable within a few hours from the metropolitan center. Many locals and visitors alike take this incredible accessibility for granted.

When considering other major cities in the world, very few offer a similar combination of tropical climate, natural diversity, and proximity. Rio de Janeiro has beaches, mountains, and some waterfalls, but lacks hot springs and lakes within such short travel times. Cape Town has mountains, lakes, and beaches, but it is not tropical. Honolulu has beaches, mountains, and some waterfalls nearby, yet it is a smaller metropolitan area. Vancouver offers mountains, lakes, and some coastal access, but no tropical climate or nearby waterfalls and hot springs. In short, Metro Manila’s mix of tropical climate, variety of landscapes, and short travel times to nature is exceptionally rare among major cities worldwide.

So, can you think of any other major city in the world that offers similar benefits to what Metro Manila does?
