Godwyn Wanted to Die Headcanon

Lore Headcanon

A bit of a rambling headcanon as I feel like Godwyn was wasted potential and he is one of my favprite characters because of how mysterious his full story is.

Now, I think Godywn wanted to die to not be a puppet for the greater Will. His role prior to the Shattering was to be the next Elden Lord but heavy is the head that wears the crown. Godwyn's story is told by those close to him but not exactly quoting from his mouth like his mom and Radagon. Everyone is telling their own perspectives and potential second hand accounts of him yet we'll never really know what he wanted. Sure he did amazing things for the Greater Will and Golden Order but we never once get some real answers from him. Ranni saw him as an obstacle in her own goals as Godwyn was destined to take the throne so had to cut him. But look at the painting of his death (above), it looks like he's on his knees.

Now you could say the Black Knives knocked him down with a heavy blow but I also feel like he could have just as easily gotten back on his feet. His head is down and face obscured too, I feel like he may have willingly stayed down because it was a way out. He may have known early about Marika's want to break from the Greater Will and that sparked some interest in him but may have also juggled with his own lifetimw devotion to the Golden Order and Greater Will because he was groomed into it. So he struggled with the weight of juggling these two choices. So when he notices these people come to kill him, he decides to take this way out to end his suffering as now something not from the Greater Will is come to collect him and he won't fight back. Besides, why else would a demigod not put up a fight if they are undying, he always knew death may not come for him, that is if it was brought right to his door unexpectedly. (Idk)
