AITAH for refusing to fund my friend's business?
So this happened last week and I'm still getting grief about it. I recently helped out my longtime friend Jay with his son's college tuition - we're talking like 15 years of friendship and his kid got into a great school but they were short on funds. I was in a position to help so I did, no big deal.
Now my other friend lets call her Ess found out about this and suddenly she's hitting me up asking if I can fund her "dream business" - some boutique jewelry thing she wants to start. She keeps saying stuff like "you helped Jay so why not me" and honestly it's driving me nuts. The thing is, Jay's situation was about his kid's education and they were genuinely struggling. Ess just wants seed money for something that might not even work out.
I told her no and explained the difference but she's not having it. She's been posting passive aggressive stuff on social media and our mutual friends are saying I'm being unfair. Some are even saying I'm playing favorites which is complete BS. There's a huge difference between helping someone's kid go to college and bankrolling someone's business venture right.
I get that she's disappointed but I don't think I owe anyone my money just because I helped someone else out. Now she's barely talking to me and making things weird in our friend group. Part of me feels bad because we've been friends for years but another part of me thinks she's being entitled. AITAH for not wanting to fund her dream just because I helped Jake
