Actually OK with the random gear tuning rolls

Discussion

I've read complaints about randomized gear tuning. I felt the same way at first, but I think I'm over it now.

I think a a lot of the grief is actually over mindset and expectations and what people are used to. Which is min/maxing gear in these types of games. Instead of settling on gear that's "just good" unless you get lucky with great tuning rolls. Not to say you might still want to mix/max if you're playing more seriously than I am.

A few things I've learned along the way...

  • To ensure gear rewards are at least in the same set, goto Wandering Paths -> Challenges > Campaign Challenge. You can pick the set you want to go for here as opposed to getting a completely random set from some other modes. These also give you an inner way note (although that's not shown on the tile), so it's a solid deal for 20 stamina points and you can triple up for 60.
  • When tuning gear, tune 1 slot at a time, see how it turns out, and retry with another piece of gear if it turns out really bad. Instead of tuning all the slots with your rare mats.
  • Even if a piece of gear has a bad bonus for your build, if it has a lot of slots then it's worth doing normal upgrades to see if enough hit.

Personally I've lowered my expectations to getting 2-3 good bonuses instead of getting maxed out gear. If I do better then I'm considering it good luck for that level cap. It's different from what I'm used to, but considering gear levels get replaced so frequently, it seems intentional to prevent grinding.
