This shark ate a family I tried to rescue in 2019 but I haven't seen it happen since. Do sharks still jump out of the water?
Back in March of 2019, in SW v0.6.4 I put out a fire, I got the mission payout for the rescue, and while the survivors were chilling on the boat, a shark appears, jumps over the boat and grabs one of them and dragged them mom under water. Then it came back in a minute for the kid. There were no harpoons or guns back then, so I decided the mission was over.
In the following 6000 hours logged in the game, I didn't see it happen ever again. Also, I'm not sure there are children to rescue any more. The shark attack happened at night after I had already accidentally capsized the boat and the survivors were just standing on the keel when the first one got snagged by a shark jumping over the belly of the boat. The horror seared the event into my brain.
Was it scripted?
I had started to think I imagined this whole encounter, but I just found an imgur album I uploaded in 2019. I think this is from the day after the mission with the hungy shark.
I updated the album with some 2025 modifications to the same vehicle I may never finish.
