(Arizona) Car Dent Removal Scam

Is this a scam?

My gf and I were sitting in a parking lot waiting for food in Prescott Az. She has a dent in her driver side door. Some guy in a work truck from a Phoenix based company pulled in behind us and started honking. She rolled down the window and he said he could fix the dent in a few minutes for $200. I told her that’s fishy, because we went to a mechanic before who said it was internal damage to the frame of the door and not just a dent.

It’s a very large dent. Like 1.5 feet by 6 inches.

He said he could fix it in 20 mins and went all the way down to $80 to fix it. She wanted to do it, but I feel so much it was a scam. He had to be canvassing the parking lot because we had just got there and were in between two other cars.

Additionally he said he was just up there for a contracting job and yelled all of this from his truck which was blocking us from being able to backup.

I told her no and that it seemed sketchy for all of those reasons and he drove off.

Even if it wasn’t a scam somehow, I feel like it’d be better to get a signed contract in case of further damage. There’s no way you get a guaranteed fix from an $80 offer from some random guy in a small parking lot.

Is this a common scam? I am very scam conscious, but have never encountered this one before.

Thank y’all for any input :)
