Lead Availability change

Hi there's an update from my asm regarding the availability of ON lead DMs. They informed us as our former team lead had changed his availability from full time to part time, but eventually they left the store because of work permit issue. I was wondering is it still possible to have your availability changed holding the position as well or you would have to get demoted to associate in order to be part time?
