Better for recording live shows?
Hi there,
I've been wanting to get into MiniDisc lately and have been exploring the potential ways I would use the format.
I asked ChatGPT about recording live shows and this is what it came back with:
| Recording Scenario | MiniDisc | iPhone + Stereo Mic |
|---|---|---|
| Loud concert | MD wins big | Distorts easily |
| Quiet acoustic set | MD still wins | Good, but noisier |
| Interviews | Tie | Slight advantage to phone |
| Outdoors (wind, ambient noise) | MD wins | Phone compressor pumps |
| Convenience | Phone wins | MD requires discs & transfers |
The response goes on to talk about MD having better preamps and limiters, better peak handling, a cleaner input stage, and a bunch of other benefits.
Is this accurate? It seems like a lot more people should be using MiniDisc. Frankly, I am excited to test out some of these use cases. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Thanks!
