Transitioning from "Traditional Martial Arts" to Boxing
Hi all,
Just want to share/have a discussion about transitioning from "Traditional" martial arts.
Not a Kung Fu vs Boxing talk :D
I spent almost two decades (on and off) practising Seven Stars Praying Mantis and Hung Gar back home and in Melbourne.
I started boxing 2 years ago, I love how direct and effective Boxing is, and the investment/return ratio in my effort is very high.
My issues:
-
I still struggle not to make a big movement when I parry. Well, at least I stopped using forearm blocks. In the beginning I feel like I unintentionally want to trap or redirect.
-
Also I always got flat-footed with cross and lead hooks. I feel like I have the tendency to get "grounded". One of coaches at the old club would keep reminding me that when we do bag sprints, which is very helpful!!
-
footworks!
How about you? I am not good enough to compete yet but try to be a bit better every day!
