Kitten won’t eat dry food — or creamy treats

New to Cats/Just Adopted

I’ve posted before about Mama cat and Tonic — my recent adoptees.

Mama will eat everything and loves creamy, lickable, churu style treats. Tonic however is baffling me somewhat. He’s 12 weeks, continues to refuse to touch dry food despite all kinds of ways of adding it in (warm broth, mixed with wet, crushed into smaller pieces). Eats wet food frantically and has a big appetite for being a tiny thing (fresh boiled chicken, wet kitten food pouches, the occasional tiny bit of plain scrambled egg) — and yet, despite hunger, won’t touch the dry. But more mystifying to me, since I assumed it’s a texture and hardness issue, is that he will not eat or touch creamy lickable treats either. When I pull out one to give both of them he will come close and get his nose up to the treat and sort of sniff around but won’t eat and within a couple of seconds will move away and sit while his mother eats. He keeps coming back as though he can tell he’s missing something while mama’s devouring it but even if I put a little on the floor for him etc he won’t eat it. What might be up with a kitten who eats neither dry food nor creamy treats?

Have tried different, high quality brands for both dry and treats.
