6yr old recent fractures. Should I be concerned.
I hope this is the correct spot to post. Im looking for opinions to suppress/validate my level of concern until the office calls me tomorrow. My 6year old had a spiral fracture after a scooter incident in May of this year. Today, while at school she missed a step and wouldn’t bear weight in her leg. The did XRs and which read as follows:
“There is a thin linear calcification at the distal tip of the fibula, could represent an age-indeterminate avulsion injury or anatomic variant os subfibulare. Cortical irregularity of the medial aspect of the distal fibula metadiaphysis is also noted and suspicious for subacute to chronic injury, less likely codman triangle associated mass. Follow-up right ankle radiographs in 4-6 weeks is advised. Lateral ankle soft tissue swelling is present, likely posttraumatic. A small ankle joint effusion is suggested.”
Now, I know kids break bones, but two breaks in 6 months has me spiraling that something else pathologically is going on. Is this irrational or justified concern? Thank you!
