How would you feel about a world like this in a shonen battle manga?
So I've been creating and writing a shonen manga for a long time.
I've noticed in a lot of shonen battle manga, the worlds they take place in are very dark and corrupt when you look deep into it, like the Hidden Leaf Village, the Soul Society, the World Government, etc. and they tend to make for more compelling stories. But how would you feel about this type of world as potential readers for my manga?
The main characters start the story in the real world, a world full of corruption, moral decay, late-stage capitalism and a future where the environment is going to collapse and world leaders are too apathetic to do anything. Then they are given powers that allows them access to a hidden island in the middle of the ocean, unseen on any maps... and it's a wonderful, magical, beautiful island, a solar punk city with buildings covered in vegetation, everyone's basic needs covered and work hours for the week being short enough that people have more time to spend with their friends. The island's mission is to take care of the planet and stop corrupt people from destroying it, peace as a first resort, fighting as a last resort. So the danger and corruption in this world isn't in the magical world, but in the real world and the magical world contrasts the real world by being 100 years ahead to a more positive future. And the characters leave the island to go into the dangers of the real world to fight the corruption that's destroying the world and try to bring the world towards a more positive future.
Think of what I'm doing for this island like what Lord of the Rings did with the Shire and Star Trek did with the United Federation of Planets. How does that type of setting sound to you from a storytelling standpoint?
Bear in mind, I don't want to do a morally gray story, I want to show good triumphing over evil and bring more optimism into the world again.
