The Black Spot Continuity

Spoiler💬 Discussion

The 2017 film alludes to the tragedy of The Black Spot with the reveal that Mike’s parents died in a fire. This is a massive departure from the novel, where Will Hanlon died from cancer. So… you’re telling me that not only did The Black Spot murders happen in this continuity, and that Will was witness to this first-hand, in another departure from the novel, but that he also goes on to be burned alive?

This is more of a rant than anything. I really, really dislike the way Mike was handled in the 2017 movie. The racialized violence he experienced was completely ignored and much of his character was handed to Ben. This retcon feels insanely dumb to me, more so than the bizarre reveal of Pennywise’s daughter.
