EUMOFA 2025 Report: EU seafood expenditure hits record €62.8B despite consumption falling to lowest level in a decade due to inflation.

Interesting data coming out of the latest EUMOFA report. It seems the EU seafood market is growing in value solely due to inflation.

The stats:

  • Expenditure: Up 4% to €62.8 billion (Record High).
  • Consumption: Down to ~22.89 kg per capita (Lowest in 10 years).
  • Prices: Increased by over 25% since 2020.

It seems consumers are finally hitting a breaking point, with fresh fish consumption at home dropping by 5%. It raises the question: is seafood becoming a luxury good again in Europe?
