Expressing myself didn't go the way I'd hoped

Sorry, long post

Some back story: I (30M) have known her (31F) for going on about 2 years (give or take). We met on a dating app in like late 2023 (can't really remember), dated a few months, and then she expressed that she wasn't comfortable with my financial situation and wanted someone who could support a family. As earth shattering and ego crippling as it was, it's completely understandable to have expectations from your S/O. We did remain friends (Idc I truly did enjoy her company while being able to put my feelings to the side) for almost a year after and then one day just stopped talking

FF to August of this year - I reach out. We hit it off like we never stopped, probably even better than before. Going on more dates, not ones "just friends" go on per se. Eventually this crescendoed to her expressing that she does have feelings for me (2 weeks ago).. we're taking pictures in a photo booth, buying drinks for one another, talking about meeting parents, saying we would make a cute couple, etc

And then she goes on vacation the following weekend. I don't hear from her all weekend and end up double texting once she's back in town for a day. Atp, I'm trying not to be insecure as (1) she isn't my gf and (2) I have no evidence to suspect that anything derailed what we have going on..

She comes back to 2 jobs, sometimes 70+ hour weeks, so we make plans to hang the upcoming weekend.

The night of, we're communicating, but then she pushes the time back by 30 mins 3 times, which prompts to ask her if this is a good night for her. She's says not really but she's still willing to hang out. She apologizes several times, says she doesn't want me to feel blown off, and expresses that she's just trying to get her week ahead in order.

My text replies:

1 "I'll just say this... I've been wanting to see you for the past week and a half. I don't really care what you have going on, I'd help you around the house if you needed it... but I'm not coming anywhere if you'd feel pre-occupied or obligated to hang out with me"

2 "If I can be honest, I feel a little blown off because we planned to hang out this weekend almost a week ago. So I would like to see you, but maybe when you do feel like you have the time to"

My POV: I enjoy her honestly at all times, but I really like when she's present mentally so I was kind of inviting her to reschedule honestly. Yes I probably still would have been upset, but I was willing to give that if that was really what she needed.

Well... that shit did not go well. She apologized more while also saying that she's just extremely stressed and overwhelmed. And then she emphasized that we're just friends because she doesn't feel like she has the capacity for dating.. but we've been dating nonstop for the past few months

I assured her that I didn't want to upset her and I truly understand what she's going through. She stood her ground. Cool. So we hang out for a little, things seemed A LITTLE lighter, and then I go home. The next day I apologize for upsetting her and she expresses that she's not mad at me, but needs some time to herself to be anti-social. She texted me Happy Thanksgiving after a few days of no communication and then that was the last I heard from her. From texting almost every day to nothing..

If someone says they don't want me romantically, I will abide by that, but at the same time, it's kind of jarring to throw out the "we're just friends" after having so many flawless date nights. I know the possibility of just being demoted, but I feel like something between that date night, up to when I sent that text happened. Was I too passionate or needy in the texts, because in my mind, it was more a show of my passion to see her and it seemed like something that 2 adults could talk out. I know I'm an overthinker and it really could be a simple as her being overworked and overwhelmed and just needing time to recuperate

Now I'm over here going a little stir crazy because I feel like I lost a friend for expressing myself. I've been contemplating reaching out, finding clarity and then just leaving her be if that's what it needs to be, but I'm just genuinely curious how we got here so fast.. What's your takeaway? Was I doing too much?
