How did ragebaiting become such a big thing?

Like why do so many people do it and why is it praised so much? Did streamers popularize it? I’m trying to wrap my head around why so many people in the game will waste their own time trolling and throwing, then say, “haha ragebaited you”. Like what are they getting out of it lol? They’re wasting their time too? Is it just cope when they’re doing badly they can’t take accountability so they say that instead of trying to win? I honestly don’t know how anyone manages to climb anymore. I get these people in almost every match.
