I find videogame storytelling can be categorized as 2 types. Am I wrong? Which do you prefer?
The first type for me is through the medium of worldbuilding. Such as in the case of silksong. At the start, we hear vaguely of an ascent, while by the end we see the actions and the morale tolls and we get a picture of what happened in pharloom.
I guess a second is more personal storytelling. Take E33. Cutscenes advance most of the plot. Everything is linear, instead of pricing together a puzzle. And the focus of the story is on the descendre family, not exactly the world itself ( I guess it is painted so...)
