I pushed away someone I really liked… her silence is awful. What should I do?
I met a girl on a dating app. We talked well, and eventually met in person. We connected, and at one point she asked me if she could kiss me. We kissed, and it felt natural and mutual. It was a great moment for both of us.
After that, things were good. We talked, we planned to see each other again, and the energy felt right.
Then I made a mistake. I pushed her away emotionally because she wasn’t texting me the way I expected. She reassured me by calling to tell me that how I was feeling was okay. She said she has insecurities too and it wasn’t a problem. She said, “I care about you.” I felt safe again and we talked the night out.
But later she started canceling the plans we had. What I felt was rejection and maybe that she met someone else, so I pushed her away again and told her I needed to take a step back. That was the final push. She told me she respected my decision and she backed off. Before we parted, I let her know that I was still interested in getting to know her — that maybe we could try again later. She said yes.
After five days of no contact, I reached out to her and told her I was in a better headspace. I asked her if she would want to hang out again sometime. Her reply was:
“For right now, I’d rather not. It's better if not for now."
She was polite and respectful, not rude. But after that message, the communication went silent. Days passed. Weeks passed. She didn’t block me, but she also didn’t reach out.
Eventually, after 3 weeks of no contact, I sent her a small message just wishing her well. It delivered, but she hasn’t read it yet.
Now I’m stuck in the unknown — hurting, overthinking, imagining every possibility, and trying to figure out whether this silence means she’s gone forever or if she’s just taking space. We were never official, but I wanted it to be.
Am I overreacting or overthinking it?
