Getting used to driving a fit

I have test driven a couple of 2nd gen fits. I'm finding it hard to get used to how it accelerates. Like it takes a few seconds after I have my foot down on the petal to actually speed up and then today I couldn't get past 40mph. I pressed the gass more and the speed stayed there. I'm not sure if im doing something wrong? I was driving automatic.thanks

Also Is 5k for a 160k 2009 a good deal? The car condition was great but lots of parts were replaced recently.clean title
