Pain while on the backpod or tennis ball

Hey guys do you feel pain when putting a ball or the backpod on the joints around the back. I do the backpod and a tennis ball and with the ball I feel more pain around my costovertebral joints. If it happened to you when Does the pain slowly dissapears. Just to be clear its not a Sharp pain more like disconfort with some bearable pain
