Parental Leave Pay
My partner and I both aged 25 are expecting a child in June 2026. We meet the income test easily and residency rules but it looks like we won’t meet the work test. At the time of the birth my partner would have worked 7 out of the last 13 months Full time and would have worked part time/full time 9 out of the past 13 months. This is due to us living and working overseas in Japan finishing end of march 2025. During April to mid may we volunteered in Hawaii and then as soon as we landed back in Aus we were receiving job seeker allowance as were both searching for work. I got a job at the end of August and my partner got a job at the start of November. This explains us not meeting the work test. From what I can see actively looking for work and receiving job seeker allowance does not meet the job test. Is this true and is there a way we can show we were coming back from overseas therefore had to find new work? It would be very disappointing to miss out on this payment for these reasons. Any help or if anyone has had experience with something like the is would be greatly appreciated. Also, are there any other payments we would be able to receive? Thanks
