Visiting During Pending CR-1?

Hello everyone,

Has anyone had issues visiting the US on a visit visa while their CR-1 was pending? Let’s say for example you file for CR-1 next year.. does the spouse (UK citizen) have any restrictions going in and out of America as long as you show a return flight and intent to leave?

I spoke to an immigration lawyer who kind of scared me and said she advises against visits during CR-1 processing as some border control officers have the authority to ban you for 5 years if they suspect any malintent. Is this true? What should I know before proceeding?
