2020 Camry SE transmission blown 114k miles ☹️
I have a 2020 Toyota Camry SE that I bought at 55k miles and it only has 114k miles now, and I’m honestly shocked and overwhelmed. I’ve had the car for about two years, and one of the main reasons I bought a Toyota was because the engines and transmissions are supposed to last a long time. Over the past few months, my car started having sluggish acceleration only when it was cold, but once it warmed up it drove completely normal. There was no slipping, grinding, shaking, weird noises, harsh shifting, or burning smell. Then a few days ago it suddenly went into limp mode, the Check Engine and Traction Control lights came on, and I got a warning saying “Malfunction in electronic control of engine/throttle/transmission.” Toyota told me today that the entire transmission is “blown” and quoted me $8,000 for a replacement, which is insane — how do people even afford an $8k repair out of nowhere? I definitely can’t. I’m taking it to AAMCO or a transmission specialty shop next to see if they can diagnose it more accurately or possibly rebuild it for cheaper, because I’ve heard sometimes it’s actually a solenoid, valve body, or sensor instead of a full transmission failure. Has anyone else had this happen on a Camry or any Toyota this new? Is it worth fixing, and did you rebuild or replace? Any advice or experiences would really help me out right now, because I’m honestly devastated and confused.
