Suspected Elder Abuse
Today was a day that totally disgusted me from an aide and a son of a 97 yo man with advanced dementia.
The aide has been known to come after the “other aide” leaves and there is a gap in between caretakers. This always annoyed me as the man needs skilled nursing but supplements aides instead at what I thought was 24/7 since he lives in an independent community. Today I think I have two theories as to what is happening in his life considering his care.
I truly believe his aide is the biggest manipulator and liar. She was not with him and he claimed to be weak in the legs and to have chest discomfort. He also said he fell and hit his head. His first son (out of state, of course) agreed to hospitalization but right after that phone call his aide came waltzing in looked at him and said “[resident] you’re fine. You can walk.” Then called the HCP son and told him it was in his dad’s head. Again, she wasn’t there and walked in and said all that.
We had already called 911 (me as the SW and our Security) so they couldn’t be canceled and we weren’t going to let them cancel it. But she told the paramedics SHE WAS THE HEALTH CARE PROXY and there was a form that named the second son as HCP.. so I called her out (professionally) and said that she was claiming that falsely. She started going off!!! Basically telling me I would be in trouble for what I did and that I wasn’t allowed to speak to her or discipline her. I only told her she was wrong and corrected her and she did a full 180.
So, I think she is manipulating the family and idk why I also think the family doesn’t want their dad to go to a nursing home. Bit is valid to not want that as they aren’t always the best but this man is ALONE and needs 24/7 care. He almost fell backwards trying to ambulate from a chair. Everyone but the aide was telling him to go to the hospital and she convinced the other son it’s in his head.
I told them he will fall and hurt himself and that they were told they need to provide 24/7 care as a past agreement. But should I call APS?? I fear he is being financially abused and 100% being neglected. Ty!!
