How do I Deal with being the Black Sheep in the Family?
I grew up in a very conservative state. A state that has never voted for anything other then the Republican party. I grew up in a household and family that is very Conservative as well besides the religious aspect that is often associated with the right(parts of my family are religious, but my main fam is not).
I love my mother and my step father. They are genuinely good people. My mother constantly hosts and makes charity events for the poor and sick. Our step father often forced us into doing things to help others like hopping out of the car during a blizzard and shoveling snow for a older couple. Things like these that I respect and appreciate them for instilling in me, even if I am not the best at being a good person sometimes.
As I have grown older though, I realize just how different our views are. I am somewhat of a radical, but would not consider myself democrat in any way. Hard to put an exact term on my political beliefs, but I usually just label myself as a liberal socialist.
That being said, I have now spent years learning to never speak up around my family when politics are brought up since it will only start fights. I have heard so many racist things and words thrown around as casual jokes, or dead serious remarks. While I don't believe my family to be KKK racist, they certainly prefer whites over others.
It's not just the racism though, it is so much more. I believe that the rich are a cancer to this country, and people like Trump stand for everything wrong with America today(stripping rights away, corruption, treason, etc). These are the things I believe, and yet my family are all trumpie groupies. It's becoming unbearable to continue being in a family I am nothing like.
