Season 1 vs all the other seasons
Hi, I don’t know if this is the right place to post but I had a conversation with my friends just yesterday and we got on the topic of why a lot of second seasons to shows tend to lack compared to the first season. A few examples I can think of from the top of my head is Why Women Kill, Stranger Things (but with third season lacking), Wednesday S2 (until episode 6-8), Squid Game. My thought process of a reason why is that the first season of these shows have a lot more time of development. Some could have years of building and they could be rewritten multiple times. But when the show is released and a second season is demanded, they’re put on a time crunch to release a new season. They have to schedule actors, they have to rebuild the set on a schedule, marketing team probably wants a release window, a deadline is put on the scripting and fans of the show don’t want a long wait for a new season so there’s a lot more pressure for future seasons compared to season 1. Plus the writers also have to live up to the expectations people have and keep up the same energy for season 2 which is hard to do.
This is the reasoning I gave to my friends but they disagreed.
