The Oticon Intent (I’s) suck (Imo)
Long story short, I was recommended to get the Oticon Intents I in 2023 by a new audiologist. I had to leave my former beloved audiologist to due to losing my insurance (lost my job) and going on Medicaid, which my old audiologist wasn’t in network for.
Once I was set up with the new Dr and given my Intent I’s, I noticed almost immediately that I experienced issues with the devices bluetooth that caused them to drop out while streaming media, even if my phone was in my hands in front of my face. I’ve had HAs all my life, all different brands, analog (in the 90’s) and digital, so I’m well aware of the limits of bluetooth on the devices. That said, the limited range of my HAs was frankly pathetic compared to devices I’d had 5, even 10 years earlier. I also experienced complete signal interference if I used a microwave while wearing them.
I kept pointing out the issues to my new audiologist who kept calling Oticon to see if she could to figure out what the problem was. Eventually, we replaced the original set with another pair under warranty, only for the issues to continue. After a year of problems with no answers or idea what the issues was, I was eventually told that this was “an issue Oticon is aware of with the signal, but that nothing could really be done.”
I was pissed bc I’d been telling them about this issue for a year and basically had been told they didn’t know what the issue was and lowkey implying it was just a me thing, only to find out later lots of ppl have complained about this same issue.
Since then I’ve been stuck with these mid hearing aids and too underemployed to get better insurance that would cover replacements. I feel like I was scammed essentially into getting worse quality hearing aids than what I had before under the guise of a better deal price wise. I’m probably gonna just cut my losses and see if I can go back to my former audiologist and get a different brand, but I was curious if others experienced similar issues or being mislead about their issues with their oticon devices. It’s probably just my shit luck, but I’d love to see what others have to say.
