Deepwoken Short Story "As Above, So Below" Preview
Hi all! This is going to be a short story about a freshie, a blindseer, a contractor and a lot of violence :)
WIP, will be finished soon
The puppet scrambled away haphazardly, the Lord’s sanguine threads still pulling at his limbs— stuttering movements dragging him across the Alestrian coral. His blasphemous silk still tries to connect the seams of his wounds, even as the depths surround gaping gashes in his torso and slowly erode his flesh, exposing glistening organs marred with fresh blood swiftly swept away by the eldritch waters. His eyes dart around for an escape, but he finds only an onyx cliffside and a void below that would damn his soul if it wasn’t already torn to shreds by the Lord’s strings. His twisted, spindly, malevolent manifesto of shadow lay out of reach— a spiteful betrayal fitting of a weapon of sin-smelted scoriae. A deadened gaze, a shattered microcosm mirroring the world his masters so desired, the Song perverted beyond belief— mantras, murmurs, melodies that whispered stories of prophets that cast the most vile of rituals in a desperate call to the Deep for the Drowned Gods to enlighten just one amongst their sprawling reefs of fanatics.
Oh, how the Song screeched for the Gods to wake.
Yet the begging was for naught. No mercy could be found in the glint of Fate’s eyes, no light of salvation visible as the Claims folded, the Clauses frayed, the Contract falling back into the clutches of a fiend yet to be fathomed.
PS: I did have a prompt for this writing: it's as follows:
Our world is full of lies, half-truths and deception— but some of these may be necessary for humanity. What is one lie you believe is worth telling?
