a student looking for some real job market advice

Education / Work

Hello everyone,

I'm a first-year Computer Science student at USTHB facing the critical choice for my L2 specialization. My main goal is to secure a remote job earning in USD/EUR as quickly as possible (even $500/month is a strong start here in Algeria) to maximize my earning value.

The USTHB Choice:

  1. ISIL (Information Systems and Software Engineering):
    • Focus: Very heavy on practicality, projects, web development, and software engineering skills.
    • My Plan: Finish the 3-year B.S. (LMD), stop, and enter the job market immediately. I will use the study time to build a very strong portfolio and GitHub.
  2. ACAD (Academic/Theory-Based):
    • Focus: Heavy on theory, mathematics, and core foundations (easier workload).
    • My Plan: Continue for the full 5 years to get a Master's Degree (e.g., Software Development), then start job searching.

The Core Question for the Algerian Tech Community:

Considering the high demand for remote work and the value of foreign currency here, which path yields the higher ROI and career progression?

  • Option A: An ISIL B.S. + 2 years of professional work experience (5 years total)?
  • Option B: An ACAD B.S. + Master's Degree (5 years total) with limited professional experience?

I'm hearing that a Master's is "better" in all cases, but I believe the early practical experience from ISIL will be a much stronger asset for international remote hiring.

Any advice from USTHB alumni or those working in remote tech roles from Algeria would be highly valued. Thank you!
