Allergic to gel polish?

I used to wear gel polish for years, and then one day all my fingernails detached from my nail beds (leaving the cuticles attached). There was no trauma, and I had not changed the brand, nail tech, or process in any way. It look a long time for them to grow back reattached - this was a few years ago. A month ago I tried a gel builder on two nails to repair a tear, and both nails detached within a week! Does anyone know what might be causing this, and if there are products out there that are less likely to give this reaction?
